They threaded on, so they must be fine, right? Wrong.

Using generic wheel locks on OEM factory rims is one of the most common and dangerous mistakes car owners make. Here is why your wheel locks need to be a perfect match for your specific vehicle and wheel type.

The Problem with Generic Wheel Locks

Automotive engineering is incredibly precise. The lug nuts that hold your wheels to your vehicle are not just threaded pieces of metal; they are vital safety components engineered for exact specifications.

• The Seat Mismatch: Lug nuts have specific “seats” (the part that makes contact with the wheel). Some are conical (cone-shaped), some are spherical (ball-shaped), and others use a flat mag seat. If you put a generic conical lock into a spherical OEM wheel, it will not seat properly. This leads to dangerous vibrations and the very real risk of the wheel coming loose at highway speeds.

⚠️ The Golden Rule for Custom and Aftermarket Wheels

Custom wheels often feature extremely narrow lug holes (often requiring “tuner-style” lug nuts). The highly specialized FARAD security keys require specific clearance to fit into the lug hole. If you are running aftermarket rims, here is exactly what you need to know before buying:

• Galaxylock: This premium model is strictly designed for Original Factory (OEM) Wheels ONLY. Because of its advanced 360° rotary head protection, the specialized key requires the standard clearance provided by OEM wheels and will not fit into the narrower holes of aftermarket rims.
• Starlock: This model CAN be used on aftermarket or custom wheels, but you must measure first! To successfully install the Starlock system on non-original wheels, your rim’s lug hole diameter must be at least 1.26″ (inches).
